Pasadena Orthopedics is delighted to announce that Dr. Sara Shirazi has joined the practice, expanding its service offerings to include comprehensive foot, toe, and ankle care for both adult and pediatric patients.
Dr. Shirazi provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for a wide spectrum of foot and ankle conditions including tendon, ligament, and joint injuries; fractures; wound care; heel pain; flat feet; bone spurs; arthritis; bunions; hammertoes; ingrown toenails, nail restoration, and fungal nails; and plantar warts. She is uniquely trained to detect early stages of diseases including diabetes, arthritis, tumors, and cardiovascular diseases. She welcomes new patients to her growing practice, and accepts most insurances.
"I feel so fortunate to join the team at Pasadena Orthopedics," Dr. Shirazi writes. "They offer a broad spectrum of orthopedic care, with decades of combined experience, and I'm excited to bring my expertise to the table. The practice has created a positive, comfortable environment that allows us to treat and care for patients and staff like family. Their wide range of resources will help me give my patients the best foot and ankle care possible."
Born and raised in Northern California, Dr. Shirazi attended U.C. Irvine for her undergraduate degrees in pre-medicine and pre-law, followed by post-baccalaureate studies at UCLA/Charles Drew. She quickly fell in love with Southern California and its sunshine, and knew she'd be back.
Following podiatry school at the California School of Podiatric Medicine, she completed an intensive residency at Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center/Tufts University in Boston, MA where she subspecialized in revisional and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.
"What drew me to podiatry initially," she explains, "was learning I could make people feel relief that same day. That's a beautiful gift to be able to give. We need our feet to be healthy and strong to get us through life--whether we're going to work or caring for our loved ones. It’s so important, and unfortunately, so neglected at times.
During her tenure in Boston, Dr. Shirazi trained under podiatry and orthopedic team physicians for the Celtics, Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox and the Boston Ballet. She was elected Editor-in-Chief for the National Foot and Ankle Review, and has authored numerous research publications, including co-authoring a chapter titled "Principles of Tendon Repair" in McGlamry's Comprehensive Textbook of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a major podiatry textbook. She was also elected as the first resident member on the Massachusetts State Foot and Ankle Society Board of Podiatry.
In her free time, Dr. Shirazi enjoys hiking, running road races, and dining. A self-described "foodie," she loves cooking and trying new restaurants.
Dr. Shirazi is also devoted to medical missions, providing treatment to patients globally with limited access to proper care. She travels annually to Latacunga, Ecuador with Hands Across the Americas to provide needed surgeries to patients medically at risk. Through a Yantalo Peru Foundation mission, Dr. Shirazi lived for a time in a small Peruvian village in the Amazon Rainforest where patients would walk for miles with their children, through mountains and rivers, to reach a clinic she helped to build, the first hospital in the region. "I'm hooked," she jokes. "I can't wait to go back." To help support missions like these, please follow the links above by clicking on the charities' names.
